LFH Expansion Updates
Little Falls Hospital Renovations & Expansions
Health care is changing. In response to this change, Little Falls Hospital is engaging in its most comprehensive reorganization and modernization project in recent history. Change, which can be unsettling in the short-term, can, nonetheless, be challenging, invigorating, and inspiring for the long-term benefit of our community. We are driven by this inspiration in knowing that our residents throughout the Mohawk Valley will be better served by this major project.
Little Falls Hospital is committed to adapting to the changing health care needs of our patients and their families while maintaining timeless core values of excellence, commitment, and community. To continue to provide the highest level of care today, we are busily planning for the future by expanding needed services, acquiring the latest technology and launching a construction effort in expansion and renovation.
Construction commenced in December 2007 with completion scheduled for December 2008.
Some of the major components of the project include:
Redesign, renovation and expansion of the Emergency Department
Little Falls Hospital is the sole provider of emergency department services in Herkimer County. The ED is staffed by board-certified Bassett physicians on a “24/7” basis and receives over 12,000 patient visits per year.
Plans for the Emergency Department include twelve individual treatment rooms. The trauma room will be relocated adjacent to the ambulance entrance. Patient triage and registration areas will offer new levels of privacy and efficiency to enhance care of critically ill and ambulatory patients.
Little Falls Hospital received a donation of $1.575 million dollars from the F.M. Kirby Foundation, Inc. of Morristown, New Jersey, to fund the renovations and expansion of the Emergency Department. In recognition of this gift, the newly renovated Emergency Department will be named the “F.M. Kirby Emergency Department.”
Integration of Special Care Unit and Medical-Surgical Unit
The major focus of this project includes renovations to the current medical/surgical unit to create multi-purpose rooms capable of caring for critical patients, a new nurse’s station contiguous to the new multi-purpose rooms, and modernization of the remainder of the unit will be completed.
Relocation of the former ICU allows for further changes, including:
Relocation and renovation of pre-op/post-op Ambulatory Surgery beds
Renovation of Surgical Support and Endoscopy facilities
Main Entrance renovations
Curbside drop-off, protective awning, ramps, lifts, and electric doors will afford total handicap accessibility to our main entrance. To enhance service to our patients, Lab Services, Central Registration, and Financial Counseling services will be relocated to the main lobby area.
Little Falls Hospital’s construction project is a great example of how Little Falls Hospital is adapting to the changes in health care. Jonathan I. Lawrence, President and CEO of Little Falls Hospital states:
”The key to our success is our ability as an organization and as health care professionals to adapt continuously to the environment. We do so while maintaining a focus on serving the community and promoting the relationships our staff and patients have built together.
As we reflect on the accomplishments and progress at Little Falls Hospital since our affiliation with Bassett Healthcare, the F. M. Kirby donation serves as an inspiration to us all and reaffirms our confidence that the future of Little Falls Hospital is more secure and brighter than ever.”
Throughout the phases of this very exciting project construction updates will be providing updates through the website.
Welcome to good health! |
